Albert
Einstein: 1879-1955 German-born American
theoretical physicist whose special and general theories of
relativity revolutionized modern thought on the nature of
space and time and formed a theoretical base for the
exploitation of atomic energy. He won a 1921 Nobel
Prize for his explanation of the photoelectric
effect.
Thomas
Edison: 1847-1931 American inventor who
patented more than a thousand inventions, among them the
microphone (1877), the phonograph (1878), and an
incandescent lamp (1879). Edison installed the world's
first central electric power plant (1881-1882).
Buckminister
Fuller: 1895-1983 American engineer,
inventor, designer, architect, writer, educator,
philosopher, and poet, noted for his innovative use of
technology to deal with global problems facing humanity in
the second half of the 20th century.
Fuller sought to solve practical problems with
simple designs that require a minimum of materials and
energy. The geodesic dome is his
best-known invention.
